OVERVIEW |
The district of Mae Rim is far from Chiangmai Province to northward along highway No.107 distance about 16 kms. Its area is 455 sq.kms. This area is surrounded by Mae Tang district to the north, Muang district and Hang Dong district to the south, San Sai district to the east and Samoeng district to the south. The status area 4 Thumbon is source forest of river and stream to keep Doi Suthep - Pui National Park and 7 Thumbon to keep National Reserve. The West to surround many mountains and the East is plain has Ping river flow pass. The important natural rivers of Amphoe Mae Rim has 3 lengths are Ping River, Rim River and Sa River.
Mae Sa Valley
In 15kms north of Chiang Mai is a wonderful outdoor playground often overlooked by tourists to Chiang Mai. The Mae Sa Valley offers a plethora of sights and activities for visitors. The botanical gardens and lovely ten-tiered Mae Sa waterfalls are the chief nature attractions, but there is also a lovely elephant camp straddling the tumbling river, an orchid farm, and a selection of animal shows, including monkeys, dogs and snakes. You can also work up some adrenalin bungy jumping or riding ATVs.
There are a few fancy resorts in the area as well as some budget accommodation. Restaurants in the area are plentiful, ranging from roadside stalls grilling chicken legs and eggs, to open-air budget Thai-style restaurants serving noodle dishes and Northern fare, as well as pricier resort restaurants. Shopping in the area includes souvenir shops at all of the attractions, as well as a few craft shops. Craft Accessories International specialises in Kashmir rugs and shawls as well as hand-made Burmese wall décor; they offering shipping. Another similar shop is Asia Craft Centre.

Climate
The weather in Mae Rim - Chiang Mai is relatively cool all year round, with an average temperature of 25oC. Temperatures typically range between 20oC and 31oC. The relative humidity averages 72%, and annual rainfall is normally 1,000-1,200 mm.
The cool season from late October to end of February with average temperature 21C and much cooler at night. The coldest months are December and January. The hot season from early March to end of May with average temperature 29.9C. The hottest month is April. The rainy Season from early June to end of October with average temperature 25.5C. The wettest month is September.

GETTING IN - OUT

*Bus : The bus services at Chang Puak Bus Station in Chiang Mai runs towards Mae Rim, Chiang Dao, Tha Ton or Fang. En route, you need to ask the bus stop at Mae Rim. The people on the bus will normally make sure you get off at the right place.
*Car / Motorbike/ Cycle : You need to take highway 107 North from Chiang Mai towards Fang, at 72km you will arrive in Mae Rim town.
*Private Transport : You can arrange for you to have transport for the whole day so that you can go site-seeing / shopping according to your requirements in places around Chiang Mai and en route to Mae Rim.
